Francis Galea
February 4, 1950 – October 9, 2014
Francis passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Trillium Hospital, Mississauga after a short and challenging battle with liver disease (auto-immune hepatitis). Born in Mellieha Malta, Francis immigrated to Canada with his family in 1963. Francis graduated from Grade 13 at Humberside Collegiate in 1967 – two years ahead of schedule. Known for his quick wit, even-keeled personality, and skill with numbers, Francis quickly moved up the ranks at IBM from the mail room to working on data analysis for some of their biggest clients. He eventually left IBM to establish his own data analysis firm, most recently known as Tilwood. He is recognized as one of the top data analysts in the Market Research field in Canada.
Francis met his wife, France Belzil from Victoriaville Quebec, on board the Centre Island ferry and they were married in 1975.
Francis was an avid traveller and was always looking for his next adventure and enjoyed helping others plan for theirs. He loved crosswords, sudoku puzzles and was always up for a game of Scrabble.
Predeceased by his beloved wife France, he was best friend to each of his three children Sharon (Ted) Fleming, Michelle (Grant), and Alex (Catherine), and cherished Nannu to grandchildren Lucie and Claire. His positive outlook on life and humour were central to family gatherings. He will be greatly missed by his three siblings Doris (Paul) Portelli, Tony, Agnes (Joseph) Camilleri, his numerous nieces and nephews, his Maltese family and his many colleagues who he considered part of his family. He was a quiet force who valued his family, his roots, and living life to its fullest.
We would like to thank all the excellent staff at Trillium J1, 3A, and ICU who helped make Francis’ final days as comfortable as possible.
Visitation will be held October 12 6-9pm, October 13 2-4pm and 6-9pm at Lynett Funeral Home 3299 Dundas Street West. Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 14 at 9:15am at St Paul the Apostle Church, 3224 Dundas Street West, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or Trillium Health Centre.
